From awareness to action: navigating disruption in the public interest

February 2-3 | Toronto

Natalie Thiessen

Natalie brings a unique range of regulatory, governance, and research experience to The Regulator’s Practice.

A registered nurse since 2012, Natalie has extensive experience as a registrant clinician and educator. Natalie holds a Master of Nursing from Athabasca University, where her thesis examined the regulation of self-employed registered nurses across Canada — work that sparked her interest in regulation and its governance, where research and practice intersect.

She has since gained practical experience in regulatory governance by serving as a Board member and now as Board Chair of a professional regulatory body in Saskatchewan. Natalie has also contributed extensively to research in the field of professional regulation as a Research Associate at Athabasca University. Through her work as an independent instructional design consultant, Natalie has honed her skills in effectively combining her expertise in adult education with her knowledge of regulatory governance to develop comprehensive yet accessible educational materials to support system partners and regulatory board members in navigating this space.

At The Regulator’s Practice, Natalie supports clients with high-quality research, policy analysis, educational design, and governance assessment, distilling complex findings into clear, practical outputs that strengthen, and advance evidence-informed regulatory governance practice focused on the public interest.
